Pen Pals and Postage stamps

I remember when postage stamps were only 5 cents. On July 13, 2025 the cost of stamps went from 75 cents to 78 cents… wow 75 cents since I was a kid. I knew the cost of stamps at such a young age because I was always at the post office buying them. I had several pen pals from all over the world, England, Japan, Canada, Ireland and more. I always wanted to travel and meet new people. Having pen pals was the next best thing.

I corresponded with some pen pals all the time, while others just occasionally or just for a few months. I did have one pen pal who lived in Hamworthy, Poole, Dorset England. Her name was Leslie and we started writing to each other when I was 12 or 13 years old.

I enjoyed receiving Leslie’s letters and learning about her, her family and her country. We would write about our interests, our hobbies, or favorite songs, etc. Leslie was such a good letter writer and I was always looked forward to checking the mailbox and hoping there was a letter from her or one of my many pen pals.

Leslie and I kept in contact from junior high through high school. I was hoping one day to reconnect with Leslie as well as meeting her family and friends. Unfortunately, I moved away from home, then married and moved from California to Illinois. During the move I lost a lot of my belongings, and her letters were among them. I did reconnect years later and found out that she was in California for a quick trip, but alas, I lost her contact information again. Maybe one day, I will be able to reconnect. I hope she had a good life and is happy.

Have you ever had a pen pal? Do you still keep in touch? I would love to hear about your pen pal experiences. Feel free to leave a comment or two.

Personality Plus

I found a new blog site ... /www.reneeswope.blogspot.com/ .....she talks about, Florence Littauer's book Personality Plus...in this book four personalities are mentioned 1. Phlegmatic 2. Choleric 3. Sanguine 4. Melancholy I have not only read this book and taken the personality test years ago, but I had the privilege in going to a church Woman's conference and Florence was the guest speaker in 1996. She is an excellent speaker, and the book is quite interesting. I have taken several personality test, through the years either in school or through work. I have read "Please Understand Me II" by David Keirsey about temperament, character and intelligence and "Now, Discover Your Strengths" by Marcus Buckingham and Donald Clifton, PhD. These books are interesting, informative, thought provoking and motivating. They not only tell you about your personality, but about those around you. They teach you about other's personalities. It teaches about diversity of pe...

LOOK UP!

When I graduated in 2011 with master’s degree the theme of the ceremony was “Look up!” Everyone has their eyes focused on their laptops, iPad, cell phones, TV etc. “Look up!” is the newest version to “Stop and smell the roses”.   There is a whole world out there, the world is passing you by, everything that happens in this world affects you. We stay at a condo on the beach every winter when visiting my family in Florida for Christmas. The seagulls fly by our 8 th story balcony every year and every day. Alas, every year I say “Hey, look at the birds”.   Unfortunately, no one listens, and they miss out. However, this year they accidently saw the birds, it was a fluke. They were so excited and talked for several minutes about this event. They acted like this was the first time it happened. Well…LOOK UP! The last 2 Christmases I saw dolphins in the water when looking out our condo window. Did anyone else see them? No, the computers, TV and cell phones were much more ...
