Autumn Leaves

autumn leaves fall gracefully showering down colorful carpet   This is one of my Haiku poem written ten years ago. What is a Haiku poem, you say. It is a Japanese poem of seventeen syllables, in three lines of five, seven, and five, traditionally evoking images of the natural world.     I have written many poems through the years. When in high school, during American Government class as my mind wandered, instead of taking notes, I would write poems. But alas, through the years and moving from the west coast to the Midwest, and several moves after, my poems were lost.    Autumn Leaves was written one day after visiting the St. Louis Art museum. It was the first time that I had ventured out on my own and explored a new area. I was in need of a mental day, I had lost my son three years prior. I just completed and graduated with my Master's Degree. I was in need of a tranquil, quiet, peaceful day away from strife and stress.    On this glorious Fal...

Favorite Author

As I mentioned in my last post, I met an author on the plane coming home from Washington D.C. to St. Louis. Her name is Susan Meissner and not only was she a delight to talk to, but I am truly enjoying her books. I have read 5 since we met last September. My second business trip was to Palo Alto, California for a week long training. Although the training was great, I did appreciate the opportunity to have some downtime to read on the flight to and from California to St. Louis. My trip was March 2nd to March 7th and although COVID-19 was just starting to spread in the U.S., there were not any restrictions of self-isolation or sheltering in place. However, once I returned home and to work, Northern California - Bay area, was on the list. So I have been working from home since. The reason for me setting the stage for this story, is that I found it coincidence, fate, ironic, what have you, that the book I chose was "As Bright As Heaven". Why am I feeling this way? It is bec...

Stop waiting for time - time isn't waiting for you.

It has been a long time since I posted on my blog. A lot has happened in the last 4 years. Job changes, travel, my husband retiring. Lots and lots of changes. I have always wanted to write, a book, a novel, an article, poems..... but life happens and excuses are a plenty. I have dabbled with writing throughout the years, such as school assignments, a couple of poems published in the local free news papers and so on. As I mentioned in the first paragraph, I changed jobs recently and with this job I had an opportunity to travel to Washington D.C. for a conference. It was a very interesting conference, we were blessed with beautiful weather, and had a chance to do a little sightseeing. However, the best part of the trip was when a pleasant woman asked if the seat next to me was available. "Yes" I said and then continued to get settled in anxious to get back home, and back to my routine. Then we began a  conversation. You know the usual "Are you traveling for business ...

5 things I know

Every week I will post 5 things I know.... S - Sweater...I love sweaters. In fact that it is the only thing I like about cold weather. Growing up in Las Vegas and California, I only wore light sweaters, but now living in the Midwest, I wear a lot of sweaters in the winter. Unfortunately, my favorite sweaters tend to get fuzz balls and it makes them look old and dingy. Well thanks to Pinterest I found a handy dandy tip of using a razor to remove them. I just buy the cheap ones and from that tip, there are some things I learned in the process. First of all, hold the sweater taut, so you don't snag it. Second, it is time consuming. And third, it is a little bit of a fuzzy mess. Wow, does it work and the sweater looks beautiful. A - Always, always, always make time for your family, friends, church and those less fortunate than you. So many people have touched my life and were a rock of support when I was going through a difficult time. They had busy lives and difficulties of ...
Never lose sight of your dreams     When you wish upon a star   Makes no difference who you are   Anything your heart desires   Will come to you….Jiminy Cricket     How many times have we heard these lyrics?? How many times have we g iven up on our dreams? But are we really giving up on our dreams or have we just gone off course in life. I look back at all the things I wanted to accomplish in life. Growing up I always wanted to be a writer, but oh yes I forgot, I wanted to be a stewardess too; I wanted to travel around the world.  I had visions of being a n interior decorator and fashion merchandise career sounded like a great idea. I enjoyed learning about keeping fit and I had thought of being a nutritionist........   S o, what happened?? Life happened. I was married and had two children, wondering what happened to those dreams. I went into the field of nursing, a far cry from the career choices that I chose growing u...

Life is good

So much has happened since the last time I blogged....2011 was such a busy and transitional year. Amidst completing my practicum while obtaining my Masters degree in Public Health, I was laid off from my job. On the positive side this allowed me to focus on my last class and my practicum, while I networked hoping to get a position as a Health Educator. Well, I graduated May 2011, but it wasn't until November 2011 before I was hired as a part time (5-10 hours a week). In the meantime, my past supervisor hired me back and I was able to work both jobs. A month later I met a wonderful man, whom I am now married to. 2012 turned out to be even better. February my part time position turned into full time and I was on my way to my new career as a health educator. Then in June the love of my life and I were married. My new life began and I moved to a new town. Although I enjoyed my job, had great co-workers and a wonderful job, the long distant driving was wearing on me. F...
